Cell Phones in the Libraries

Please be respectful of others and keep calls brief. Extended calls should be taken in the area inside the entrance. If you are disturbing others, we may ask to you end your call or move to a different area.

Library Areas for Studying

  • Levels 1 (closed) & 2 are Quiet Floors. Conversations should be kept to a whisper and in smaller groups.
    Amenities: Large and small tables, some study carrels, natural light in the Atrium (under pyramid)
  • Level 3 is the entry level and has open study space facing the Quad, as well as 2 medium and 2 large study rooms. Conversations can and will happen, but please be courteous of others. If you enjoy a quieter area, please try another floor.
    Amenities: Medium and small tables
  • Level 4 (closed) has been designated a Silent Floor, reserved for individual study only. No talking, please.
    Amenities: Study carrels, medium tables
  • Level 5 (closed) consists of individual study space, the library’s classroom, and staff offices.

Study Rooms

Study rooms are moving from Level 5 to Level 3.

  • Available for student use (doors, technology, and new furniture are coming soon; for now, the rooms are open study space, and students may need to share the tables):
    • 2 large study rooms (7–10 persons)
    • 2 medium study rooms (4–6 persons)
  • Still being constructed:
    • 6 small study rooms (1–3 persons)
    • 7 medium study rooms (4–6 persons)
    • 1 large study room (7–10 persons)
  • All rooms require keys and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. 
  • Keys to the study rooms may be checked out at the Service Desk just inside the entrance.
  • A valid UMSL ID card is required. Study rooms are available for University of Missouri-St. Louis students only.
  • Rooms are checked out for a 2-hour period.
  • Rooms must be vacated 30 minutes before the Library’s posted closing time.

Use of the study rooms is subject to the current Study Room Policies.
