Where to find things in the UMSL University Libraries (Thomas Jefferson, St. Louis Mercantile, and State Historical Society)

Overview

Levels:

  • Level 5:    Books QD–Z, periodicals, microform, classroom, staff offices
  • Level 4:    Books G–QC, silent study area (with tables and study carrels)
  •  Level 3 (main level):    Two entrances, Service Desk (research help and book/study room checkout), art gallery
    • Books: New print books and bestsellers
    • Technology: Computer lab, 3 printer/copier/scanners, microfilm reader
    • Study spaces: 6 small study rooms, 7 medium study rooms, 5 large study rooms, open study areas
  • Level 2:    St. Louis Mercantile Library, atrium (directly below the pyramid), Wallace H. Smith Gallery of Art, State Historical Society of Missouri–St. Louis Research Center, COM2 South, Books E, reference materials, curriculum, children’s books (juvenile collection), government documents, folio and oversize books, tables
  • Level 1:    Books A–D and F, additional Mercantile exhibits, study carrels and tables
     

Restrooms:

  • On Level 3 (main floor):
    • Five gender-neutral restrooms are located along the west side of the building.
    • A female-only restroom is located in the southwest corner.
    • A male-only restroom is located in the southeast corner.
    • Currently closed. A parents’ room is located near the restrooms; please ask for a key at the Service Desk.
  • On Levels 4 and 5, restrooms are located along the south wall of the library (female in southwest corner; male in southeast corner).

  • Restrooms on Levels 1 and 3 are wheelchair accessible.
     

The St. Louis Mercantile Library is located on Levels 2 and 1 of the Thomas Jefferson Library. The University Archives are also currently handled by the Mercantile Library staff.

The State Historical Society of Missouri–Saint Louis Research Center is located on Level 2 of the Thomas Jefferson Library.

(Note: The Ward E. Barnes Library was merged into the Thomas Jefferson Library in May 2014.)

Level 3 (Main Level)

Two entrances, Service Desk (research help and book circulation), new print books and best-sellers, 3 printers, microform reader, 6 individual study rooms, 7 medium study rooms, 5 large study rooms, open study spaces, gendered and gender-neutral restrooms

Level 2
