ASM Journals Are Now Open Access Through Subscribe to Open (S2O)!

Thanks to the support of subscribing institutions, the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) has successfully transitioned six of its research journals to full open access in 2025 under the Subscribe to Open (S2O) model. This means that high-impact microbiology research is now freely available to researchers, educators, and the public worldwide—without article processing charges (APCs) for authors at subscribing institutions.

What This Means for Faculty

  • Publish Open Access at No Cost – No APCs for authors at participating institutions.
  • Funder Compliance – Meets open access mandates effortlessly.
