Men and individuals AMAB living in the U.S., citizen and non-citizens alike, are required by law to register with Selective Service at 18 years old.

Men who register with Selective Service remain eligible for federal student financial aid, state-funded student financial aid, federal employment, state employment, job training under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, security clearances, and U.S. citizenship for immigrant men. In an effort to curtail identity theft, the Social Security Administration (SSA) initiated a public information program to encourage the use of alternate identifiers in place of the Social Security Number (SSN.)

Your nine-digit Social Security number is your first and continuous connection with Social Security. It helps us identify and accurately record your covered wages or self-employment earnings. We also use it to monitor your record once you start getting benefits.

The counselors and psychologists at Counseling Services provide personal counseling sessions for students, faculty, and staff at UMSL. Issues for which counseling may be helpful include study habits and study skills, time management, dealing with a crisis, helping a friend in distress, and personal/social issues such as decision making, anxiety and stress, depression, anger management, relationship problems, grief and loss, sexual assault, self-esteem, LGBTQ concerns, and alcohol or drug misuse/abuse.
