Artificial intelligence (AI) is an area of computer science that focuses on creating intelligent machines capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence. The origin of AI as an academic discipline is often attributed to the Dartmouth Workshop of 1956. The term machine learning was coined in 1959. It began to flourish in the 1990s. Machine learning is like a computer learning from experience. It can look at data, find patterns, and make decisions without being explicitly programmed. Many technologies you are familiar count as AI. For example, Google translate which (was released in April of 2006) is a statistical machine translation tool.
Machine learning & artificial intelligence:
process and recognize patterns
efficient processing of lots of data
natural language understanding
improved recognition of images and objects
Artificial intelligence is software that can act like a human in some capacities. Together, machine learning and artificial intelligence can be used to automate tasks, and solve complex problems.
