About Ryuutama

Ryuutama is a slow-paced, beginner-friendly Japanese TTRPG focused on travel, nature, and discovery. Players roleplay as Travelers through a beautiful, but dangerous, fantasy setting they collaborate to build. The goal of the game is to co-create an exciting, feel-good story of exploration and wonder.

Gameplay

A game of Ryuutama begins with the players and GM collaboratively designing the setting's towns and other areas. The Game Master (GM) selects their own character, the Ryuujin, who guides the players (Travelers) from afar during the game. Players choose one of several classes; the primary options are Minstrel, Healer, Merchant, and Hunter. Regardless of class, characters can focus on building technical skills, attack prowess, or magical abilities themed on seasons.

Similar to other TTRPGs, players roll dice and add modifiers to discover whether their character succeeds at challenging actions in-game. The GM/Ryuujin guides the story and narrates the outcomes of character choices.

As players travel, help NPCs, fight monsters, and more, they gain experience points to level up. The Ryuujin also levels up as the characters progress through the narrative, becoming a visible part of the story at later stages of the game.
